On my latest visit back up to my home state, my childhood friend and I set out for an afternoon of lunching and antiquing. She introduced me to The Vintage Loop! This was the first I had heard of this area and it was a delightful surprise:)
I have been one to go straight from Chevy Chase to Annapolis without venturing into all the other smaller cities along the northern route on the Chesapeake Bay.
These towns hold gems and we were in search of treasure! Starting with a breakfast that would set the mood for the rest of the day, we enjoyed Eggs Chesapeake Jacqua! My first attempt at poaching eggs went very well,! I served them over a pan fried crab cake and paired it with toast and fruit so we'd have enough energy to last us till lunch! Oh Maryland, how I miss you!!!
Our first city was Chesapeake Beach! This small, sleepy town boasted a few antique stores, a lovely, little bakery an art gallery and many other interesting sites, including the boardwalk with views of the bay. We'll be back in the spring/summer, but on this day snow still covered the wooden boards along the walk and rooftops of this quiet town that bustles in the heat!
The antique stores here are wonderful! Full of treasures! Oil paintings, glassware, hand painted porcelain, silverware, crystal chandeliers, mahogany furniture, and Victorian dolls, brooches, jewelry and clothing. I sat my sights on the artwork, clocks and brooches that day!!! :)
The art gallery here Artworks @ 7th is very cool! On this particular Saturday we were greeted at the door with snacks galore and many beautiful artworks to boot! This gallery held everything from photography, watercolor, oil, acrylic, clothing, jewelry and sculpture. The works highlighted the local charms of the area, scenes and photos of boats on the bay, fresh fruit from the farm stands and local buildings graced the walls of this lovely, window lit space.
Our next stop was Friendship, MD. Here we found just two, small shops on West Friendship Road, a local home and gifts store and across the street, Friendship Antiques and Vintage Collectibles. These two shops were well worth the visit, filled with lovely paintings, spaghetti poodle porcelain figurines, furniture and other odds and ends.
With all the hunting and buying we worked up quite the appetite! It was time to eat, and Skippers in Deale, MD was the place to be! Located right on the water, Skippers aims to please:) We feasted on fresh fish tacos and crab bruschetta and both were divine!
No trip to Deale, MD is complete without a stop into Vintage Stew, hands down our favorite shop of the afternoon and the perfect way to end the day:) Shop owners Barry and Shelley were incredible, full of style and grace, both extremely friendly and knowledgeable! They cater to the customer who is truly on the interesting and unique hunt!
Their shop is filled with exquisite finds! Hand selected, antique pieces that boast wonder and amazement! I fell in love with a wooden, circular antique end table with lion legs, a trio of handmade, antique puppets, an Italian tray, loads of paintings and this old dentists cabinet that would look amazing in a dining room or kitchen!!! This place truly has something for everyone:)
There were still several shops we didn't get a chance to hit, so make a day or even a weekend out of The Vintage Loop! Follow the map and check store hours for best times to go:) Enjoy your day on The Chesapeake Bay!
