First off, Thank You David and Carmen Kreeger!!!! Once their home, and now a private museum in DC off of Foxhall Road, this beautiful, modern mansion offers up some of the most beautiful art I've ever seen...and I've been to many museums in this beautiful country of ours and the UK and Europe as well!!!
This rolling building holds some of the best works I've had the pleasure of admiring from some of the best artists in the world!!! Each painting and sculpture inside and about the little garden flow together in a harmony of texture and color:)
The Monet Gallery was my favorite!!! Each painting inside is unique, each clotted in beautiful strokes of the most brilliant, vibrant pastels I've ever seen in a Monet. These paintings are smaller than the Waterlilies and Cathedral paintings I've always cherished, some of them even resemble landscape works of Van Gogh. The collection is lush and each piece has movement and life, enjoy!!!!
The museum also holds some fine pieces from Picasso, Kandinsky, Degas, Renoir, Cezanne and Sisley, just to name a few:) Picasso dominates the great hall just as you enter, and the surrounding galleries invite you into their beauty and intrigue with a glance! A grand piano sits against the far window, it signifies the Kreegers love of music. Having both been amateur musicians they often hosted parties and concerts to bring their love of art and music to their community.
There are always new exhibitions so be sure to check back often!!! Remember that this is a small, private museum, a little over an hour and you should be able to enjoy everything! And if you're hungry and want to do a little shopping, Georgetown is just minutes away!
Some of my favorite places to eat in Georgetown: French- Cafe Bonaparte, Italian- Pizza Paradiso- http://www.eatyourpizza.com/, American-Clydes http://www.clydes.com/, Thai- and if you really wanna step out for a beautiful dinner, complete with the flair of dining in a romantic country inn setting in a renovated federal style house peppered with american antiques, you won't want to miss a night out at The 1789- http://1789restaurant.com/main/index.cfm .
Bon Appetit!
