U and 14th Street: The Vintage Shopping District

It's time to get out the pen and plan your day!

Looking for vintage clothing, antique jewelry such as hand painted cameos, pearls, rhinestone brooches, crocheted gloves and shoes?  How about a treasure for your home, like a hand painted, carved chair for that corner in the living room, or an early 19th century drafting table for your art projects?  Or just maybe, you can't live without a one of a kind brass or painted porcelain lamp for the entryway?  Well look no further than the U Street Corridor!!!

Around S and 14th St. you'll find vintage threads, furniture and accessories for yourself and your home that are completely unique in every way:)  Treasury will have you swooning over vintage shoes, antique Chinese filigree bracelets, hand painted hair combs and amazing vintage clothes, shoes and hand bags!  Blues Hard Goods and Los Gitanos share an upstairs space above Pulp, inside you'll be immersed into Vintage Cowboy boots and belts, western style clothing for men and women, and Victorian clothing and accessories for women:)

For the lady who loves her space, check out Miss Pixies!  Inside you'll see everything from antique typewriters, vintage stamps, marbles and records to hand painted Chinese coffee tables, vintage dining sets, lamps, mirrors, art and antique and retro sofas, desks and more!!!  Room and Board is also near by, but its a bit pricey and everything is new, very nice furniture but be prepared to spend some dollars!  And if you're into vintage vinyl, pop into SOM Records!!!

Just a few blocks away and around the corner on U Street are more fabulous finds!!!  But if you need to refuel in between, step into Cafe Saint Ex for a bite, I recently had their Monday Sandwich: Turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado on toasted whole wheat...need I say more, YUM and the place and its staff is totally charming!!!!!

Ok, now that you've had lunch, walk into my new favorite home store, Goodwood!!!  This place has it all and then some:)  I fell in love with their antique carved wooden benches, vintage mannequins, painted chairs, old leather sofas, large wooden chests, antique drafting tables, bizarre and beautiful lamps and mirrors, vintage luggage, and other odds and ends.  This place is not to be missed!!!

Down the street just a little further is home to a whole row of vintage finds!  Junction, Rock it Again, and Dr. K Vintage all carry a huge variety of vintage clothing for men and women as well as accessories, and jewelry!  Legendary Beast specializes in just antique and vintage jewelry.

Foundry and Millennium will dazzle you with vintage furniture and home decor and accessories.  I fell in love with a set of 1920's scotch glasses that had painted old cars in different colors on them at Foundry, and this lady knows her fabrics, she re-upholsters antique furniture breathing new life and loads of beauty back into these forgotten pieces, stunning!!!

Hope you saved room for dessert!  Cake Love is right here too:)  Feast you eyes and tummy's on scrumptious cakes, cupcakes and cookies in every color of the rainbow, to sweeten your day!

I hope you and yours have a wonderful afternoon, Thurs-Sun is the best time to visit these stores, these days are when they are all open, a few of them are open everyday, be sure to call ahead or check their website before you plan a visit:)  Parking is the worst on the main roads like U and 14th and you have to pay the meters.  I recommend parking on S between 14th and 16th in the residential neighborhood where the row homes are gorgeous, the trees will give you a walk around town in the shade and you can stop and smell the flowers!  Did I mention there are no meters and plenty of street parking, no permits required!!!

Enjoy!
