The Ellicott brothers established Ellicott's Mills after much hard work, they had to convince everyone in their new hometown to switch from tobacco to wheat and it took some time. In 1830, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad developed their first terminus outside Baltimore city here at the Ellicoot's Mills and the construction continued heading further and further west. This terminus allowed for business to really start booming and in 1861, after much transition, the entire area around the mill was a bustling hub of milling, farming and manufacturing!
Today, Historic Ellicott City and it's Main Street offer multiple antique shops, unique boutiques, restaurants and a charming tearoom. This antiquer's paradise will inspire anyone to gather the vintage and rare!
Lunch at Johnny's Bistro on Main or Cacao Lane Restaurant will fill you up with fantastically american cuisine; if a cheese burger and a cold drink is what you desire! If you are more in the mood for a quaint afternoon tea, then Tea on the Tiber will suit your fancy. Expect to make a reservation in advance, at least a few days prior because of the high demand for cuteness! Tea sandwiches, scones, and sweets are what you can enjoy in the charming atmosphere of a Victorian Tea Room, enjoy;)
Save room for dessert but don't have it at the restaurant, you'll want to walk into Sweet Cascades for a chocolate covered oreo or twinkie or one or two of the many sensational truffles they have, my favorite being the dark chocolate truffle!
A few doors down you can stroll into Sweet Elizabeth Jane, if you're a fan of Anthropologie, this is the place you'll want to find;) Sweet Elizabeth Jane is home to clothing, china, home decor including sensational Christmas trim during the Holidays and other odds and ends that are sure to bring you joy! Step into Joan Eve's which offers up Rhinestone Jewelry, antique glassware, cups and saucers and select small furniture.
Besides the many other smaller boutiques and antique shops, Ellicott City also has two antique malls. Each mall has multiple levels with many dealers whose inventory include vintage toys, china, glassware, jewelry, clothing, furniture and other decor.
You can easily spend an entire afternoon perusing the streets and shops, eating, drinking wine and relaxing on a bench to people watch while enjoying hand scooped ice cream or chocolates. Take in the history, take home a treasure or two and take in the memories of a new favorite place to visit again and again:)
Fabulous;)
